Power Trip energy shots have mediocre power but taste fantastic

Power Trip has released an energy shot to compliment their tasty energy drinks. While this one provides great taste, the labeling of this as an energy VITAMIN shot is pretty misleading. I like their little shot as a whole - but calling this a vitamin drink while it contains the same ingredients as most of the other shots out there is a bit silly. The one advantage to this over the others out their is it’s phenomenal taste, which should be what is being sold to the public. With Shots emerging as the newest hot category, coming out with a unique package is essential to not be counted as just another Me-Too being sold in the discount racks at warehouse stores and clearance bins. Power Trip tastes great and works as well as the big boys, but the package holds it back from being a bigger player.

Nutrition:7
advertising some of the highest concentrations of vitamins C and B in the industry. It does have lots of it, although not as much as some shots and mixes, which can contain up to 14,000 times your RDA. Like most shots this does not have sugar and carbs. There is no telling how much caffeine or taurine is in this, as they hid it underneath the listing of “proprietary energy formula”. I can say that it did provide me with a boost for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. I was not bouncing off the walls, but was not tired for a while afterwards. My guess is somewhere between 100-150 mgs of caffeine from the taste and buzz.
My only real issue is them calling this a Vitamin shot, when the only vitamins it has is the normal cheap B and C vitamins you can find in many many shots, and a great portion of energy drinks. They also put the amino acids in there to boost metabolism, same as 5 hour energy, upshot and the dozens out there. I would have loved it if this was a real vitamin shot, where it was packed with all my daily multi-vitamins. I wonder how many people are fooled into thinking this actually provided more vitamins than your average energy drink. IF this even had 1 other vitamin besides b complex and C I would be more impressed - but the vitamin promise in here is undelivered.

Taste: 9
very good and very strong. like concentrated energy drink - but not in a bad way, more like when you need a sweet and sour fix and reduce lemonade mix to a potent but drinkable concentration. Actually, with this tasting very citrus, it has a lot in common with a very reduced country time lemonade drink. I would drink this over 90% of the energy drinks out there, certainly over the energy shots I have tried. This tastes like I am drinking something potent, but it is still very very tasty.

Packaging:5
Pretty standard fare for the actual package - looking a whole lot like every other energy shots out there. As far as the label, it is a mini version of their big energy drink, only slightly harder to read at the top. While it could have been better, it is by no means bad. And, just like 5 and 6 hour energy, listing the caffeine as ” about as much as a cup of coffee” which means nothing at all. Some companies list that as 60mg, some others think a cup of coffee have 150mg. I have seen others filling my convenience store shelves with much much worse, but the package is totally surpassed by the new energy shots by the Big Boys of energy drinks who have entered the shot market.
If they want their shots to compete, I would definitely go back to the drawing board with concept for this package, or suffer at the hands of Monster, Rockstar, Nos and 5 Hour.

Study shows common vitamin and other micronutrient supplements reduce risks of TB recurrence

New findings show a link between micronutrient supplementation and reduced risk of recurrence during tuberculosis chemotherapy, according to a study published in the June 1 issue of The Journal of Infectious Diseases, now available online.

Nutritional assessment and support in tuberculosis therapy, once common before the advent of anti-TB drugs, is no longer an integral part of clinical therapy in most low-income countries even though poor nutrition impairs the immune system and leads to risk of further infection and relapse.

In Tanzania, Eduardo Villamor, MD, DrPH, of the Harvard School of Public Health, and a team of researchers conducted a randomized trial of micronutrients using doses of vitamins A, B-complex, C, E, and selenium or placebo in 887 patients receiving tuberculosis therapy, who were then followed for a medium of 43 months; 471 were HIV-coinfected and not receiving antiretroviral therapy and 416 were HIV-uninfected.

The study showed that micronutrient supplementation was associated with reduced rates of TB recurrence. In the study, both HIV-infected and uninfected patients with pulmonary TB who were receiving the supplements had a decreased risk of TB recurrence during the next few months after the TB culture had become negative: 45 percent overall and 63 percent in HIV-infected patients. Supplementation also reduced the incidence of peripheral neuropathy by 57 percent, irrespective of HIV status, and increased the levels of certain cells (CD3 and CD4) important in immune response in HIV-uninfected patients.

As Villamor noted, “We found that providing micronutrients to patients with tuberculosis who were undergoing anti-TB treatment appeared to decrease the risk of recurrences. This effect was stronger in patients infected with HIV than in those who were HIV-negative. This could be relevant because TB reactivation is common among HIV-infected persons. Villamor further noted, “that it will be important to find out whether micronutrients improve the outcome of TB treatment in TB-HIV co-infected patients who are undergoing antiretroviral therapy.

Christine Stabell Benn, MD, and colleagues in Copenhagen noted in their accompanying editorial that results to date relating to TB recurrence and mortality are inconsistent, with previous studies using different dosages and combinations of micronutrients. Dr. Stabell pointed out that the promising results of the Villamor study show that further investigations are needed to develop optimal combinations of micronutrients that can be provided inexpensively in TB therapy to reduce relapses and increase survival.

###

Fast Facts:

1) Supplements of common vitamins and other micronutrients may reduce the risk of recurrence in patients receiving tuberculosis treatment.

2) Further studies of micronutrient supplementation offer the potential for an inexpensive treatment strategy for vitamin-deficient tuberculosis patients in low-income countries.

3) The effects of micronutrient supplementation in TB-HIV co-infected patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy have yet to be studied.

How to slow down aging in Asian skin

MANILA, Philippines—The biggest culprit in skin aging is the sun. That’s why I find it ironic that cosmetic companies choose to bombard us with anti-aging products during the cold months but seem to abandon us altogether when summer starts creeping in.

For Asian skin, age shows first in discoloration and sagging rather than in wrinkles, as in Caucasians.

Here are some non-greasy and non-pore-clogging remedies.

In a meeting with dermatologist Lucy Forres, I learned that L-ascorbic acid is the only form of Vitamin C that will make a positive difference to collagen in terms of restoring the elasticity and firmness of the skin. Any other form is merely for antioxidant purposes.

Products with Vitamin C derivatives have molecules that are too big which cannot penetrate the deeper levels of the skin where collagen production is found. Their benefits are limited to fading skin discoloration and boosting the properties of your SPF sun blocks.

Cellex C high potency serum contains L-ascorbic acid. It is lightweight and needs to be applied only once a day. That single application is good for three days so you are assured of its benefits and protection.

The downside: The moment you open the vial, Vitamin C oxidizes so as you’re using it, it becomes less and less potent.

So take advantage by applying it not only on the face and neck, but also at the back of the hands and areas with dark marks and freckles.

I had a wound and was advised to wait for the scabs to fall out before applying Cellex C. Result: My leg wound has not yet turned brown but has stayed reddish and continues to fade and shrink.

It is when a wound has turned brown that it is almost impossible to fade. Of course, you can use hydroquinone, but not if you are pregnant or intend to conceive.

Vitamin for the skin

L-Ascorbic Vitamin C is very safe. It contains Zinc to create a conducive environment for collagen production, and Tyrosine for skin remodeling and repair.

The perfect moisturizer for the wounded skin is Hydra 5 B complex, an oil-free gel containing a high percentage of hyaluronic acid, a substance that attracts 1,000 times its weight in water for maximum hydration.

Well-hydrated skin heals and repairs more efficiently. These are sold exclusively at physicians’ clinics due to its very potent formulation that needs to be monitored, so call 8997868 to find the clinic nearest you.

Notes: Any Vitamin C cannot be combined with copper peptide or calcium ingredients as these minerals cancel each other’s benefits. So you will be spending a lot for nothing if you carelessly combine products that contain these ingredients.

Lifting eye creams

My main problems are puffiness and drooping upper lids, especially when I am really tired.

What works?

L’Oreal Revtalift Double Lift Eye may be useful. Its red side is for lifting the upper lids and its white side is for hydrating and draining the lower. Those with puffy upper lids will love this.

You may also try Kiehl’s Eye Alert, which is really for men. But it is, hands down, the best eye cream for those prone to puffy eyes. The caffeine in it will make you look like you get eight hours sleep nightly.

Kiehl’s first store is at Greenbelt 5 Makati.

Also check out Herbalife Skin Activator Eye. It was my life saver when I was trapped in an air-conditioned hotel room for three days finishing up five deadlines. It hydrated the lower and side eye area and kept it firm despite the haggard nights.

For a Herbalife dealer near you, call 8973450.

Clarins Lift Affine Regard Defining Eye lift is applied on brow bone and under the eyes. It gives an instant lift to heavy lids, drains puffy portions instantly and brightens dark circles slightly.

My staple eye creams are Shu Uemura Beta G eye, Lancome Secret de Vie, and Guerlain Orchid Imperiale. They have active ingredients that work on strengthening the immune system.

All of the items I have reviewed above really do a great job.
